Kitting out a school for hurling and camogie: a teacher’s buying guide
Every September the same question lands in our inbox from teachers and Cumann na mBunscol coordinators: what should a school actually buy for hurling and camogie? Here is the short version, learned from years of school orders.
The golden rule: a ball each
One ball between three children means two children standing still. The schools that build skills buy a ball per child — which is exactly why our Go Games balls come in dozen packs, from one to five dozen. For a class of 25, two dozen covers it with spares.
Which ball for which class
- Juniors & seniors infants: First Touch — the softest ball we make; catching without fear comes first.
- 1st–3rd class: Quick Touch — a step firmer, where real striking starts.
- 4th–6th class: Smart Touch — nearly a real sliotar; the ball most schools use for matches.
- School teams playing competitive: the leather Size 4.

For the PE hall: wall balls
Indoors, a leather ball is hard on floors, walls and windows. Wall balls are quiet, soft on the hurl and built for exactly this — packs of 6 and 12, in colours that are easy to count back in at the end of class.
